5Awesome product!  May 06, 2010
My recipe is: 2 cup mixture of any juice, and any soda. Add a few spoons of sugar. A little bit of honey, and a bit of apple sauce. A small slice of hot dog. (sugar, bugs love sugar!)
It takes roughly 3 days, after being placed in full sun. By day number 4, my bait was good, and ripe. By the end of day 4, the bottle was full of wasps. Awesome!
My funnels, or bait, also attract hornets, and flies. Equally as well, as wasps. I am always amazed, wasps, and hornets fly in. Though can't get out.
I used the funnels with a plastic JIF peanut butter jar. Instead of hanging the jar, I put it on the ground. Still catches wasps, also centipedes. Again, awesome!!!!

1Nothing but Gnats!  Apr 14, 2010
I have tried two versions, one with two funnels on a bottle, and one with 1 funnel and just slits on the other side. The one funnel version was used with the apple juice formula and a piece of meat. It attracted nothing. The second bottle was used with 2 funnels and the apple juice formula. That has now been in 4 different locations, heights and sun/shade positions in my yard. It has not attracted a single wasp, but has attracted many gnats. The first version didn't even attract gnats. They both actually seem to be almost wasp deterrents, except whenever I go outside, then a wasp will come around. (Around me, not the apple juice.) I wear no perfume, or other scented products.

I was really disappointed, as I am kind of afraid to use the other traps I have, that use pheromones. But I am going to have to try them. Maybe it is the wrong time of year, April in Florida, but if the wasps are building on my porch, and flying around, shouldn't this attract them? Maybe the design will work better later on. I don't see all the differing types of wasps flying around yet, so maybe it only works on some???? I will update the review if I have later success, but for now, would not recommend this unless you have a gnat problem. I could have used this in my cubicle at my last job, where gnats would get in your face every time you chewed a mint or piece of gum, but I could never catch them. I would be on the phone all day, batting myself in the head while talking to customers. I should have tried this gnat funnel!

5The only wasp killer that works!  Apr 11, 2010
The fatal funnel is so easy to use and is the only wasp catcher/ killer I've found that works! I've seen some complaints that they're too difficult to use, I'm sorry, but it doesn't get any easier. You take an empty plastic bottle, use a sharp razor knife and cut a cross (not a circle), stick in the fatal funnel and poor in some apple juice. I was able to make 4 in a matter of 15 minutes. I caught 50 wasps in the first day!

5Excellent Product - If baited correctly!  Sep 28, 2009
This product worked so well that I had to dump all of the yellow jackets out because there was no room left for the new ones to drown! Seriously the surface of the bait liquid was covered with bodies and the new Yellow Jackets would just sit on top of the old dead ones and rarely drown. The secret is in the baiting and the time of year. The older the bait the better it works so try not to throw out your bait when you need to empty your bottle. My wife and kids love sitting and watching the yellow jackets fly in and get stuck. That's how fast it works!

A little YellowJacketOlogy:
During spring and early summer these things feed on bugs and other sources of protein. They take this protein back to their hive and feed it to the larve which in turn secrete a sugary substance as waste. The older Yellow Jackets (YJs) feed on this waste. During the late summer all of the larve are grown and hunting/feeding on their own so there is no source of sugar in the colony. The older YJs start to scavenge around human garbage, picnics, etc looking for sugars. My guess is that the negative reviewers were trying to use these baits earlier in the season. Next spring I will try this again but with more meat since that is what the YJs will be looking for at the time and update my review.

Bait:
1 cup water
1/2 cup juice
2 tbsp sugar
several small pieces of raw ground beef or other raw meat
1-2 drops of mild dish detergent (To break the surface tension of the water for rapid drowning)

2difficult to use  Aug 15, 2009
Ruined two soda bottles trying to get correct hole for funnels. This is too much work to catch only a few wasps. Would recommend a ready made trap.
