Heavy, but effective and strong, just read the directions Jun 25, 2010 This is one of the larger blades for a pole chainsaw I have seen and was a reason to buy the product. It cut into an 8 inch branch of fresh hardwood just fine, saving me a ton of money if I hired someone to do it. I have no doubt this could cut a larger branch.
However, with the bigger sized chain comes a weight problem. I can't use this thing longer than trimming a few trees in a row, especially after I've done a lot. You also need to keep pumping the oil into the chain before every cut. It was not explained well to me until I read the manual -- I'm accustomed to gas chainsaws that automatically drop oil onto the chain.
So you have a powerful saw with this, which should only be used on a pole in my opinion, but can double as a handheld. Drawbacks: heavy, and I'd say the pole is a little shorter due to this factor as well.
Nonetheless, I'm happy with my decision.
Very cumbersome and chain keeps slipping off Jun 09, 2010 I had high hopes for this as the one I had been using snapped it's chain it was no longer available after 10 years.
This chain saw is rather heavy and not easy to steady when fully extended. Also the chain keeps slipping off after 1 or 2 cuts. Very dissatisfied.
I love this tool! Jun 03, 2010 I bought this unit about 3 months ago and have been extremely pleased with it. I have used other chain saws in the past but this is the first I have ever owned. It works great both on the pole (fully extended) and removed from the pole as a standard chain saw. I have done major triming on a number of crab apples, maple, Austrian Pine trees and the saw cuts through with amazing ease. Used it to cut down a 1' diameter white pine and it went through like butter. The chain needs occasional adjustment and tightning but that appears to be a normal function of any chainsaw. Extremly pleased with this investment.
McCulloch Electric Pole Saw May 17, 2010 Love it! We live in an older home with tons of beautiful large trees that seem to always have varying unreachable dead branches. We bought a chain saw but my husband found it was too heavy to try to balance on a high ladder and start it at the same time and, invariably when he would try, the saw wouldn't start. So we researched the pole saws and were disappointed that most of them could be extended to only 8 ft - not long enough to reach our large trees. We were excited when we saw this one on Amazon and ordered it immediately. It works great, reachs most of what we need to cut, and is light enough that even I can handle it! As usual, Amazon's customer service was impeccable and the item arrived within a few days of ordering. It was a great buy!McCulloch #MCP1510 10-Inch 1.5 HP Electric Pole Saw with Removable 10-Foot Pole
Electric Pole Saw Apr 25, 2010 This unit is OK. I was able to cut a green 5" branch on my maple tree about 12' in the air without too much issue. The saw does bind some when cutting long horizontal branches, but with a bit of muscle and a learning curve it will be a great tool. One thing to make cutting easier, start as far out on the limb as you can and make multiple cuts so the weight of the branches doesn't bind the chain.
Pros: Extending pole with 2ndary safety switch for operation, self oiling chain, saw has plenty of power for its size, good reach, nice price (beats having a pro come in), trusted name brand, nice clean cuts, chain saw can be removed from pole for use on the ground with some extra effort, weight of saw is OK (others complained but i am not a muscular guy and was able to handle it just fine).
Cons: A bit heavy as others mentioned but really has to be so it is tough enough to do this kind of work, pole is very hard to extend ( I extended it before putting on the saw or might have had issues after attached), learning curve to use effectively, very hard to attach saw to handle (an extra set of hands is useful), need a 2nd chain saw for cutting dropped branches).
Overall, I would buy this again. It works well for my light cutting needs. I only have a few trees and after they are initially trimmed there will be less need for the product, but nice to know it is around when needed and saved me big buck on hiring a service to do the work. I would recommend this unit to others with light trimming/pruning needs.
