The PetSafe Wireless Fence pet containment system is a revolutionary concept that provides the safest, simplest form of pet containment ever. Plug in the transmitter somewhere inconspicuous in your home. The transmitter emits a 17.5 kHz radio signal around your home. Your pet wears a lightweight receiver collar that "listens" for the signal. While the collar is receiving the signal, your dog is free to run and play in your yard. When he approaches the boundary of the signal area, he receives a warning beep. If your dog does not return, he receives a static correction which is startling but not harmful. With a little simple training, your dog will quickly learn his boundaries. The training of your pet is a key element with the PetSafe Wireless Fence. Follow the easy instruction and training manual that is included.

5worked great after only two days!  Mar 11, 2010
Our dog, without fail, would run to the neighbors' yards, driveways, and into the street. Once the correction phase began he became a new pet. Fantastic product!

5PetSafe makes porcupine encounters nil  Mar 02, 2010
I highly recommend this appliance, hands down. I should have come on earlier with this...moved to the Northeast, Labs nor I familiar with porcupines. In the first month, we had two trips to the vet- emergency wise. Very expensive, painful, and the injuries do not make the dogs retreat, but retaliate...every chance they got.
Invested in this little wondrous machine and by golly, it works like a miracle. It only took 1 week to train, although that might be stretching it....meaning, in a few days the dogs were quite secure and safe in their boundary area and learned not too painfully quick- to avoid the boundary line. My dogs are big chocolate Labs who were use to roaming free in the backwoods and on the backroads of the Midwest. For their own protection, this system beats fencing, chaining- it virtually allows them the freedom they need with the safety required for them to live a long satisfying life. As an owner, I am ever thankful such a product exists that protects my friends/dogs.

(Please note: The fence does not keep porcupines out, but!!! The dogs stand at their boundaries barking and carrying on with the prickly pigs in sight and the porcupine takes that as a no trespassing sign and has not entered...yet.)

5This is so great I can hardly believe it  Feb 19, 2010
This is one of the best things I've ever bought. It has drastically improved my life and my dog's life. I was apprehensive about how well it would work and about shocking my dog, but it's been as perfect as I could possibly have hoped for.

We rent, so finding a place with a fence is hard. And my dog loves to lay outside all day on the porch. Before we had this product, we had her on a tie out, and she always tangled it around trees, and would run to end of it really fast when another dog walked by, and it looked so painful.

We started off training her on the lowest shock setting, and she didn't really seem to get it, it was hard to tell if she was being shocked or not. She's 18 months old and about 70lb. After about three days, we turned it up to the second lowest, and she immediately got it. One more 20 minute session and she never tried to cross the white flags again. She didn't even really seem bothered by the shocks, she'd do a little dance, and then come running to us, and was happy and tail wagging as soon as she was back in bounds. We carried her out of bounds for a few weeks after we trained her, but then she learned that with us was okay.

Our house is on a slant, the left side of the house is maybe 15 feet higher than the right, and it works fine. We have it plugged in at the rear of the house, and it works fine through the 18 inch thick concrete rear wall. Also works fine with 10 feet of snow on the ground, even if the dog digs down deep.

Only at all annoying thing about it is that if she jumps in the car while she has the collar on, it'll shock her. There's really no way they could prevent this, but be sure to take the collar off of your dog before trying to get them in the car.

5Finally - a solution for runaway dog!  Feb 18, 2010
We have a wonderful yellow lab who found ways to leave our fenced property every time we had him off the line. Absolutely nothing worked - except keeping him on a long heavy duty line. All the time. It was a sad state of affairs and our lawn/yard was really taking a beating.
I bought this system for "my husband" for Christmas. Put off set up for a few weeks. When we got a good perimeter (it took a little bit of work due to elevations and obstacles)it took less than 2 sessions for our dog to catch on. He wanted NOTHING to do with the buzz he got at the boundary. It is like having a real dog now - not a dog on a string - and he seems much happier too. We are SO grateful for a solution that works. Now we don't worry about him getting injured, lost or hurt by escape. What a relief!

2Range is severely limited  Feb 05, 2010
In reading the documentation, you should be able to get 90 feet out of one of these, however it does state that if there are metal items near it, the range could be limited. They also tell you that you need to house it indoors. In our house, the garage is the best location, due to the shape of our yard, however being in the garage, the range was limited to just over 30 feet (on maximum setting). I returned it and will buy an in-ground wired system.
